Have you ever walked into a room in your own home and suddenly thought, “Something feels different in here”?
Nothing has moved.
The furniture is still in the same place.
And hopefully nobody has secretly redecorated while you were sleeping.
But somehow, the room just feels different.
This is one of the fascinating things about Feng Shui. The energies of our homes are constantly changing, and October brings another shift.
A part of your home that felt wonderful last month may need a little more attention now, while another area may suddenly become more supportive.
So what is changing in October, and how can we work with it?
October Brings the Earth Dog
In Chinese Astrology, October brings us the energy of the Earth Dog.
The Dog is loyal, protective, responsible and strongly connected to home and family.
It likes stability. It likes knowing that the people it loves are safe. And when something feels unfair, the Dog can suddenly become very determined.
Add the Earth element, and October becomes even more practical and grounded.
This can be wonderful for taking care of responsibilities, spending time with family and dealing with the things we may have been postponing.
But there is another side.
Too much Earth can make us feel heavy, stuck or overly serious.
We may find ourselves worrying about everything, carrying everybody else’s problems or feeling that we personally have to keep the entire universe running.
Sound familiar?
My advice?
Be responsible, but don’t carry the whole world on your shoulders.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop, enjoy your home and appreciate what is already working.
Your Home Changes Every Month
One of the biggest misunderstandings about Feng Shui is that once we have arranged our home correctly, we are finished.
Unfortunately, the energies didn’t get that memo.
The monthly Flying Stars continue to move.
This means that every month different areas of the home can become more supportive, while others may need to remain quieter.
That doesn’t mean we need to completely rearrange our homes every four weeks.
Please don’t start moving the sofa around at midnight because Anette said the energies changed!
Instead, we pay attention.
We make small adjustments.
And most importantly, we learn when to activate an area and when to leave it alone.
What Is Your Home Telling You?
October is a wonderful month to simply observe your home.
Where do you naturally want to spend more time?
Is there a room you suddenly avoid?
Are you sleeping differently?
Does one area feel peaceful while another feels unusually busy, heavy or uncomfortable?
These little observations matter.
Feng Shui isn’t only about a compass and calculations.
It is also about noticing how you respond to the space around you.
Your home often tells you something before you consciously understand what has changed.
Home and Family Take Center Stage
The Earth Dog naturally brings our attention toward home, family, loyalty and responsibility.
This makes October a good month to ask yourself a very simple question:
Does my home support the way I want to live?
Not whether it looks perfect.
Not whether it would photograph beautifully for Instagram.
But whether it actually supports you.
Do you have somewhere comfortable to rest?
Does your bedroom help you slow down?
Can your family sit together comfortably?
Is there a place where you can work without being distracted every five minutes?
And perhaps most importantly:
Do you enjoy coming home?
A beautiful home is wonderful.
But a supportive home is even better.
Don’t Try to Fix Everything
With the practical Earth Dog energy, we may suddenly notice all the things that need doing.
That cupboard needs organizing.
That drawer needs cleaning.
That room needs painting.
That chair needs repairing.
And before we know it, our peaceful Sunday has become a full renovation project.
So here is my October reminder:
You don’t have to fix everything at once.
Choose one area that would genuinely make your life feel better and start there.
Feng Shui works best when the changes are intentional, not when we turn our homes upside down because we think everything needs to be perfect.

A Thought to Take With You
Your home doesn’t have to be perfect to support you.
Sometimes the smallest change can make us feel more comfortable, more grounded and simply happier to be home.
And remember:
If we know what’s coming, we can prepare and react accordingly.
With love,
